Chinese Dragon Relief Starry Glaze Gaiwan

This gaiwan is suited to a focused personal tea session at home, in a study or at the office. Its rounded bowl holds approximately 205 ml, leaving room for tea leaves to open and water to circulate. By adjusting the gap between the lid and bowl, you can control the pour and hold back loose leaves. It can be used with green, white, oolong, black and pu-erh teas.

It is suited to people who appreciate Chinese dragon imagery, Chinese teaware and layered glazes, and can also be given as a birthday, holiday or everyday gift. Unlike an ordinary gaiwan with a flat printed dragon motif, this piece uses raised relief to shape the dragon and surrounding patterns, followed by bronze-toned hand finishing to emphasize the layered lines. Fine hare’s-fur-like streaks are visible within the blue-green starry glaze. The color and pattern shift with the light and firing, allowing each piece to retain subtly different surface details.
